With An Essay towards a New Theory of Vision in volume 2, with separate title-page, although pagination is continuous; this work was separately published the following year. 'Alciphron' is regarded as an outstanding example of English literature among works on philosophy. (Keynes, p.37). It is a polemic against deists whom Berkeley identifies with atheists and designates as minute philosophers because of their inability to take large views of things. Keynes 15.
