Scarce first edition of one of the three short works written between the publication of Begriffschrift, 1879, and Grundgesetze der Arithmetik, 1893-1903, in which Frege expounds essential improvements on the former. The present work, together with his other two papers Über Sinn und Bedeutung, 1892, and Über Begriff und Gegenstand, 1892, was incorporated in the Grundgesetze, in which his theories as well as his criticisms in the Begriffschrift and Grundlagen der Arithmetik, were extended and refined.
