Large 8vo: 648 pp. Original cloth, a little faded on spine. From the library of Anthony Quinton.
The second edition of 'The Elements of the Theory of Knowledge, Formal Logic and the Methodology of the Sciences' (first published in 1929); this edition, which was enlarged by thirteen papers written between 1947 and 1958, was translated into English as Gnosiology and published in 1966. Kotarbinski (1886-1981) was probably the most prominent philosopher of the Polish analytical movement, and the main outline of his doctrine is to be found in this work; it was intended as a textbook, but its scope and importance far exceeded the calibre of ordinary textbooks, and it became the most important and influential Polish philosophical book published between the two wars.
